If you love TikTok and all that comes with it, have fun now because it might not last too much longer. The U.S. government clashed with the popular platform's lawyers in federal court over a law that could ban the app by mid-January.

TikTok has argued that the potential ban would be a “radical departure” from the U.S. supporting an open internet, while setting a “dangerous precedent.” Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers and security experts stress that the Chinese government could tap TikTok’s trove of personal data from millions of U.S. users.

TikTok faced off with the U.S. government in federal court on Monday, arguing a law that could ban the platform in a few short months is unconstitutional while the Justice Department said it is needed to eliminate a national security risk posed by the popular social media company.

A lawyer for TikTok and Chinese parent company ByteDance sought on Monday to convince a federal appeals court to block a U.S. law that would ban the short video app used by 170 million Americans as soon as Jan.
