More than a million bags of shredded cheese sold at stores including Walmart, Target and Aldi have been recalled because they may contain metal fragments, according to an updated Food and Drug Administration report. Great Lakes Cheese Co. of Hiram, Ohio, issued the ongoing recall Oct. 3, stating the affected products could cause injury if consumed.

Over 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese sold at Target, Aldi, and Walmart stores across California have been recalled due to potential metal contamination, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The FDA reclassified the recall to a "Class 1" on Dec. 1, according to an enforcement report, meaning the food "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
