Ukraine on Tuesday suspended consular services for men of fighting age living abroad, after announcing measures to bring them home amid manpower shortages in the army fighting Russia.
Ukraine has stripped military-age men abroad of access to consular support except for help in organising their return home in an effort to boost conscription.
The move comes as Kyiv faces manpower shortages in the fighting against Russia, and is tied to a new law that includes tougher penalties against draft dodgers.
Kyiv on Tuesday said it had suspended consular services for Ukrainian men of fighting age, in another bid to boost troops after tougher punishments for draft dodgers and a lower mobilisation age.
Ukraine said Tuesday it was introducing new measures that would encourage military-aged men to return to the country, as the army struggles to hold the front line, due partly to deepening manpower shortages.
