Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black and South Asian woman to represent California in the Senate, swore her in. Butler’s wife, Neneki Lee, held the Bible her during the ceremonial swearing in in the Old Senate chamber.
Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to swear in Laphonza Butler as California's newest U.S. senator at the Capitol on Tuesday at noon Pacific time.
The get-together will be held at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel, 800 Washington Avenue. The times are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
