The White House is ramping up its efforts to make good on President Donald Trump’s long-held promise to end the Russia-Ukraine war, with Washington, Moscow and Kyiv all expected to send officials to Saudi Arabia for meetings in the coming days.

Russia's president agreed to Trump's proposal, the Kremlin said. The White House states negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East.

Vladimir Putin has rejected an immediate and full ceasefire in Ukraine, agreeing only to halt attacks on energy infrastructure, following a call with US President Donald Trump. The Russian president declined to sign up to the comprehensive month-long ceasefire that Trump's team recently worked out with Ukrainians in Saudi Arabia.

Ukraine’s Zelensky talked to Trump 24 hours later and hoped the United States will monitor any ceasefire as Kyiv and Moscow traded salvos overnight.

The call’s primary focus was on getting Putin to agree to a 30-day ceasefire of the three-year war in Ukraine.
