The U.S. Education Department reopened online applications Wednesday for income-driven repayment plans for student loan borrowers.

The department had shut down an application for all income-driven repayment plans in February after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit expanded an injunction blocking President Joe Biden’s Saving on a Valuable Education program, commonly known as Save.

The path for current student loans is uncertain, but forgiveness options look even less likely for future borrowers.

Borrowers' loans will not be affected by the move to the Small Business Administration, but the transition may be rocky.
