All three major U.S. stock indexes were headed higher in Wednesday's final hour of trading after President Donald Trump soothed investors by saying he is not considering firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Tech weakness led by ASML hits Nasdaq and S&P500, while Dow gains on strong bank earnings and soft inflation data boosts Fed rate cut hopes.
S&P 500 futures were higher Tuesday, boosted by gains in Nvidia, as traders pored through the latest U.S. inflation data. Futures tied to the S&P 500 rose 0.3%, while Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.6%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures shed 83 points, or 0.2%.
Viatris Inc. closed 32.99% short of its 52-week high of $13.55, which the company achieved on November 25th.
The S&P 500 has outpaced the Dow Jones Industrial Average despite President Trump's rejection of exceptions to the Aug. 1 date he set to launch his latest tariffs. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq has had a day in the green.
