A smaller, 2.9 earthquake hit the Malibu area earlier Sunday at around 3:35 a.m. No damage or injuries were immediately reported.
After experiencing five earthquakes since mid-February, the Malibu area felt a few more over the weekend. The first quake, a magnitude 2.9, occurred at 3:35 p.m., 17 miles south of Malibu.
The temblor was centered about 2.5 miles south of Julian, according to initial reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.
A preliminary 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Rancho ... mostly centered in Malibu where there have been at least eight reported instances of temblors larger than 2.5 magnitude.
