The recovery process from the massive destruction of Hurricane Ian has been “nonstop, 7 days a week” and according to Florida Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie, the job is far from over.

Governor Ron DeSantis provided updates on recovery on the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ian making landfall in Southwest Florida and highlighted the long-term recovery efforts over the last year.

Almost exactly one year after Hurricane Ian slammed into Southwest Florida with terrifying, deadly force, some of the recovery dollars designed to continue to help the region rebuild are being delayed by officials in Washington who have been unable so far to avert a likely federal government shutdown starting this weekend.

That formula, developed by National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, attributes 100 days of recovery for each day of search and rescue – which means it could take 900 days for Sarasota County to recover from Hurricane Ian.
