Hours after the U.S. conducted "precision airstrikes" on facilities used by Iran-linked groups, there was another attempted attack on a U.S. base in the region.

President Joe Biden emphasized Friday afternoon that the US will “forcefully protect our people,” a day after approving retaliatory airstrikes in response to a drone attack by an Iranian-backed group in Syria that left one American dead and more injured.

The U.S. military carried out airstrikes in Syria after a drone attack killed a U.S. contractor and wounded six others, including five American service members.

The Pentagon responded to an attack on a base in Syria by launching airstrikes on groups affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The drone strike also wounded five American service members and a second U.S. contractor, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, adding that Iran is thought to have been behind it.

The main air defense system at a coalition military base in Northeast Syria was not working earlier this week when one American contractor was killed after a suspected Iranian drone struck the base.
