Israel has accepted a U.S. call for ceasefire with Iran after more than a week of strikes and missile retaliation

Israeli forces killed at least 40 Palestinians in Gaza and ordered new evacuations on Tuesday, local medics and residents said, in further bloodshed shortly after Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefirein their air war.

Foreign nationals leaving Israel on Tuesday voiced both relief for themselves and anxiety for family and friends staying behind as uncertainty hung over the country hours after a fragile ceasefire deal with Iran was announced.

Germany sees no reason to criticize Israel’s military action in Iran or the U.S. strikes over the weekend, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on X, in one of Berlin’s clearest expressions of support since the conflict escalated.

It remained to be seen whether the attack would ignite a regional war or provide the U.S. and Iran with an off-ramp from their intensifying confrontation.
