Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the official and final end to slavery in America, falls on Thursday, June 19th this year. A Juneteenth organizer in Charleston, Ray Whiting said they wanted people to really get a chance to enjoy the event without the concern of having to work the next day.
The city’s oldest Juneteenth celebrations began 20 years ago, and events will reflect part of Lexington’s 250-year heritage.
