LSU’s national champion baseball team received a hero’s welcome Monday as they landed at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, trophy in tow. First baseman Jared Jones carried the national championship trophy off the plane while head coach Jay Johnson fist-bumped players on the tarmac.

For the second time in three years and the eighth time in program history, LSU is a national champion in baseball. The Tigers downed Coastal Carolina 5-3 Sunday afternoon to cap an undefeated run through the College World Series and climb back to college baseball's mountaintop.

The LSU Tigers are back at the top of the college baseball world, a place the blue blood program knows very well. The Tigers topped Coastal Carolina 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field to win the championship series 2-0 and claim their second national championship in the last three years.
