An escalating clash pits a Republican president looking to fulfill his mass deportation goals against a Democratic governor with White House aspirations hoping to mobilize opposition.

Gov. Gavin Newsom and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump’s three Hollywood ambassadors, met in Century City on Thursday to discuss the actor’s “Make Hollywood Great Again” proposal, TheWrap has learned.

Trump said he “called him up,” and defended his decision to send National Guard troops and Marines to the Los Angeles area after protests over his immigration policies erupted. He said he told Newsom he has to do a better job.
