But fine-tuning can be costly, and the good news is that OpenAI on Tuesday announced it is offering drastically cheaper fine-tuning for its GPT-4o mini AI model, introduced last week.

Free fine-tuning allows OpenAI customers to train the GPT-4o mini model on additional data at no charge until September 23, starting with Tier 4 and Tier 5 users.

It’s also adding GPT-4.1 mini, which replaces GPT-4o mini as the default for all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier.
