The Earth is currently edging into three active meteor debris fields: the Southern Delta Aquariids, the Alpha Capricornids and the Perseids.
August's full moon will be on the Sturgeon Moon, this will rise on Saturday, August 9, according to the Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG), we can expect to see the full moon at 8.55am in August.
The Perseid meteor shower is known for it's fast-moving fireballs and is active right now through mid-August, peaking between August 11th and 13th. During the night time hours, we've seen the typical pattern where our daytime showers and storms end by evening.
The best time to view the Perseids is between midnight and dawn, according to the society. A good day to view them is Thursday, July 24. That's when the new moon is, according to the Farmers' Almanac. This will make the night skies darker and optimal for stargazing.
