Tax credits for crucial clean energy and home energy efficiency projects would be phased out, albeit less quickly.

Shares of US solar companies fell sharply after Senate Republicans released a bill that would end clean energy tax credits earlier than expected, dashing hopes that major cuts passed by the House wouldn’t stick.

The so-called Big Beautiful Bill targets the tax credits designed to put the U.S. on the path to net-zero carbon emissions.

The Senate’s version of the “big, beautiful bill” includes changes to green energy tax credits that are more flexible than those passed by the House — but would still be a significant rollback.

In the latest Senate version of the GOP’s budget and tax bill, better known as Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, the 30% tax credit for home solar and batteries is going to be over 180 days from the time the President signs it. Other tax credits for utility-scale solar and wind projects are going to be completely phased out by 2028.

With demand expected to soar, the Legislature passed bills aimed at boosting supply and making the grid more reliable. Bills to impose more regulations on renewables died.
