The United States is backing a new plan that will see food and other aid supplied to Gaza privately, officials confirmed on Friday.

The United Nations and its partners have condemned the proposals by Israel, which has been barring deliveries of food and medicine for months.

Israel plans to set up distribution centers in southern Gaza and move a large number of Palestinians there, as it tries to balance international outrage over a blockade of aid to the enclave with continued pressure on Hamas.
