A high-stakes standoff between the U.S. government and social media app TikTok over a potential ban is set for a reckoning on Thursday when TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testifies before a committee of House lawmakers.

TikTok's CEO will tell Congress that the company is not operating under the authority of the Chinese government during testimony Thursday that serves to determine whether the popular social media app should be banned.

In written testimony submitted in advance of a Thursday morning hearing, TikTok CEO Shou Chew pushes back hard on calls for a ban on the popular short video service.
