António Guterres said it was time to stop what he called the 'deadly cycle of tit-for-tat violence' in the Middle East.

The Netherlands is among the 40 countries that have condemned the recent attacks on the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL. In a statement published on Saturday, the countries declared that the shelling “must stop immediately and be properly investigated”.

Turkey condemns Israel's attacks targeting the U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon (UNIFIL), its foreign ministry said late on Thursday, adding Ankara would continue supporting similar peacekeeping initiatives and structures.

Some 34 nations that contribute to the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon have “strongly condemned recent attacks” on the peacekeepers after several were wounded during fighting between Israeli and Hezbollah troops.

It comes after Israeli troops fired on UN headquarters in southern Lebanon, injuring two peacekeepers for the second time in as many days.
