The Writers Guild of America strike that has disrupted programming and other operations for Hollywood media companies will come to an end Wednesday, after both sides agreed to a tentative deal, the union said.

“The WGAW Board and WGAE Council also voted to lift the restraining order and end the strike as of 12:01 am PT/3:01 am ET on Wednesday, September 27th. This allows writers to return to work during the ratification process, but does not affect the membership’s right to make a final determination on contract approval,” the WGA wrote online.

Hollywood's writers union said its members could return to work on Wednesday while they decide whether to approve a three-year deal that provides pay raises and some protections around use of artificial intelligence among other gains.

The governing boards of the eastern and western branches of the Writers Guild of America both voted to accept the deal and declared the strike would be over and writers would be free to work starting at 12:01 a.

Leaders of Hollywood's unions declared the writers strike over, after agreeing to a contract with film and television studios five months after the boycott began.

The truce came nearly five months after over 10,000 Writers Guild of America members went on strike on May 2. Writers won't return to work right away, and actors are still on strike.
