Selected and prized for their long summer bloom period, they are often called the plant of the 100 day bloom. It is a fast growing, medium sized tree and is sometimes called a Southern Lilac. Crape Myrtles bloom on new wood and should be pruned in winter or early spring. Remove basal suckers, twiggy growth, crossing branches and branches growing to the center of the plant. Also remove side branches up to a height of 4-5; as this exposes the handsome bark of the trunks. Plant this pernnial in a location with full sun.
