A member of the Delphinium Delgenius series, the result of over 10 years of breeding, Delgenius Breezin is the earliest to bloom. Freely and continuously flowering, spring and summer, the plant sets about 20 to 30 large flowers per sturdy stem, and more than 500 flowers per plant. The multiflowered stems bloom for weeks in huge lavender-purple semidouble blooms with highly ruffled petals, a white center, and a green bee. The frilly flowers create spectacular displays, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to the garden, making excellent floral arrangements. A Delphinium x hybridus variety, commonly called candle larkspur or delphinium, Breezin is an herbaceous perennial with a compact, upright habit of heavily lobed dark green foliage and a fast growth rate. It is perfect for containers but is shown to best effect when grouped or massed in mixed beds and borders.Delphinium grows best in locations with full sun to part shade and moist, well-draining, fertile, loamy humus soils that are slightly acidic with a 5.4 to 5.5 pH. A pH higher than 6.0 will result in fewer blooms. Although Breezin was bred to be heat tolerant and strong stemmed, it may benefit from sites with some afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates, and shelter from strong winds. Feed weekly during growth and flowering with low concentrations of a slow-release fertilizer. Do not fertilize after flowering. Once the plant is established, deadhead spent flower spikes to the basal foliage to encourage rebloom. Dear resistant.
