A member of the Delphinium Delgenius series, the result of over 10 years of breeding, Delgenius Neva offers spring and summer interest. Freely and continuously flowering, the plant sets multiflowered stems that bloom for weeks in huge creamy white double blooms with a white bee. The fabulous flowers create romantic displays, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to the garden, making excellent cuts for floral arrangements. A Delphinium x hybridus variety, commonly called candle larkspur or delphinium, Neva is an herbaceous perennial with a compact, upright habit of heavily lobed dark green foliage and a fast growth rate. It is perfect for containers but is shown to best effect when grouped or massed in mixed beds and borders. Delphinium grows best in locations with full sun to part shade and moist, well-draining, fertile, loamy humus soils that are slightly acidic with a 5.4 to 5.5 pH. A pH higher than 6.0 will result in fewer blooms. Although Neva was bred to be heat tolerant and strong stemmed, it may benefit from sites with some afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates, and shelter from strong winds. A heavy feeder, it requires higher phosphate rates than most perennials for optimal performance and should be feed weekly during growth and flowering with low concentrations of a slow-release fertilizer. Do not fertilize after flowering. Once the plant is established, deadhead spent flower spikes to the basal foliage to encourage rebloom. Dear resistant.
