They are native to North America and will range from and are native to open areas of the east from Massachusetts to the American Prairie to the California coast, and south to Louisiana and Florida. Wonderful in naturalized areas, or in cottage gardens - anywhere you like. The blossoms measure about 4" across, are lightly fragrant, and bloom from May thru September. About 10" tall with trailing stems to 30" long. Cut back severely before winter. Following the substantial blooms, is the 2 to 3" long, 4-winged seed pods are produced which are beautiful in dried floral arrangements. Evening primrose has been used in alternative medicine.
